Privacy Policy for Square One

Square One is provided by BILLABYTE PTY LTD ("Billabyte", "we", "our", or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles and how it is used.

Summary

  • We do not operate our own user account system or collect or store personal information on our servers.
  • We do not sell personal information or use it for advertising.
  • We do not operate our own analytics or use advertising SDKs. Google may collect usage and diagnostic data through its platform services, as explained below.
  • Your gameplay data is stored locally on your device. If you are signed in to a supported platform game service, gameplay progress and achievements are also stored by Apple or Google.
  • Optional puzzle races exchange puzzle settings and live progress between participating devices using Apple SharePlay or Google Nearby Connections. We do not operate a race server.

Information We Handle

Square One stores gameplay-related data locally on your device so app features can work. This may include:

  • Puzzle progress and history
  • Scores, streaks, and achievements
  • App settings (for example, theme and gameplay preferences)
  • Notification preferences and reminder times

Square One does not send this data to our servers because we do not operate a backend account system for user data. If you are signed in to Apple Game Center or Google Play Games Services, the app may send puzzle progress, game history, statistics, achievements, learning progress, and current saved games to that platform. This allows achievements to be recorded and your progress to be restored on other devices using the same platform account.

Playing on the Website

The website saves today’s entries, pencil marks, and timer in your browser’s local storage so you can resume on the same browser. Browser progress is separate from mobile app progress.

Your time zone is sent to our server to select the correct daily puzzle. When you check or complete a board, its entries are sent to the server for verification. The game does not save those entries on the server or link them to an account. Ordinary website requests may appear in the hosting provider’s access and diagnostic logs.

Puzzle Races

On supported Apple devices, you can start or join an optional puzzle race using SharePlay. Apple relays the puzzle seed and race settings so each participating device can create the same puzzle. If live progress is enabled, the app also sends each participant's percentage complete, elapsed time, score, errors, hints used, and completion state to the other racers.

On Android, optional nearby races use Google Nearby Connections to exchange the same race data directly between nearby devices. The app asks for nearby device, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or location permission as required by your Android version. These permissions enable device discovery and connection; Square One does not use them to track your physical location.

Race messages do not include board entries, pencil notes, account details, or contact information. Billabyte does not operate a race server or retain a copy of the session. Apple and Google provide the connection services under their respective privacy policies.

Google states that its Nearby SDK collects connection performance metrics, including discovery and connection latency, reliability, and throughput, together with device model, country, build version, and the application package name to improve the service. You can allow or deny this collection in your device's Settings > Google > Usage & diagnostics. See Google's Nearby Connections documentation.

Notifications

Square One can send optional local reminders (for example, daily puzzle reminders).

  • Notifications are scheduled and managed on your device.
  • You can enable or disable notifications at any time in app settings or device settings.
  • We do not use push notification tokens to send messages from a remote server.

Third Parties

Billabyte does not use gameplay or race data for advertising or operate its own analytics.

The app may use Apple Game Center and iCloud on Apple devices, or Google Play Games Services on Android devices, for platform sign-in, achievements, and cloud saves. Apple and Google process game-service data under their respective privacy policies. Square One does not receive a copy on its own servers.

Google states that Play Games Services collects analytics and diagnostic data to improve SDK stability and its products. Its services also handle gamer identity, achievements, and saved game progress when those features are used. See Google's Play Games Services data disclosure.

The app also relies on platform services provided by Apple and Google to run on your device, including app distribution and operating-system notification frameworks.

Data Retention

Local gameplay data:

  • It remains until you delete it in-app (if applicable), uninstall the app, or clear app storage through your device settings.
  • We do not retain copies of this data on our servers.

Platform game-service data is retained and can be deleted according to your Apple or Google account controls.

Billabyte does not retain race-session data. Google's usage and diagnostic data is handled according to Google's privacy policy and retention practices.

Children

Square One is a general-audience puzzle app and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your Privacy Choices

You can:

  • Turn notifications on or off in app settings
  • Control notification permissions in your device settings
  • Remove local app data by uninstalling the app or clearing app storage (platform dependent)
  • Manage Game Center or Play Games data through your platform account settings
  • Turn live race progress on or off in game settings
  • Allow or deny nearby device permissions in your Android device settings
  • Control Google's Nearby SDK diagnostics in your device's Google Usage & diagnostics settings

International Users

Square One does not operate its own remote data service. Optional platform game services and Google diagnostics may process data in the regions where Apple or Google operates.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make changes, we will update the "Effective date" above.
